Symptom Keep LLC (“Symptom Keep,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides a browser-based symptom-recording service at symptomkeep.com and app.symptomkeep.com (the “Service”).

This Privacy Policy explains what information stays in your browser, what information we receive, why we use it, and the choices available to you.

The short version

  • Your symptom check-ins are encrypted and stored in the browser you use. They are not automatically uploaded to our servers or synchronized across devices.
  • We receive limited account and profile information needed to provide the Service, such as your name, email address, optional phone number, optional diagnosis, avatar, and an encryption key associated with your account.
  • You decide when to create and share a symptom report.
  • Browser-powered voice transcription may send audio to your browser or device provider, depending on the browser and device you use.
  • Browser-local symptom history has no cloud backup. Clearing browser data, using private browsing, switching browsers or devices, or losing access to the device can permanently erase it.
  • We do not sell your symptom history or use it for targeted advertising.

1. Information stored only in your browser

When you record a symptom check-in, the Service stores the record in the browser on that device. Sensitive fields—including the symptom, severity, notes, timestamp, and any attached photo—are encrypted before storage.

The Service does not automatically upload symptom check-ins to Symptom Keep’s servers. Signing in on another browser or device will not make your previous symptom history appear there.

We cannot retrieve browser-local check-ins for you because we do not have a server copy of them.

2. Information we receive

We may receive and store the following information:

Account and profile information

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • Optional mobile phone number and verification status
  • Optional diagnosis or condition entered in your profile
  • Optional profile image
  • Account identifiers and authentication information
  • An encryption key associated with your account

The encryption key may allow the same browser to unlock existing encrypted check-ins after you sign out and sign back in. The key alone cannot restore check-ins after the browser-local records have been erased.

Feedback

If you submit in-app feedback, we may receive your rating, written comments, user ID, email address, and the time of submission.

Messages to us

If you contact us by email or through the website contact form, we receive your name, email address, and whatever you include in your message. Please do not include medical details you do not want stored outside your browser-local symptom history.

Basic website and product analytics

We may collect limited technical and usage information, such as browser type, device type, pages or features used, approximate location derived from an IP address, and event timestamps. We use this information to maintain the Service, identify errors, understand general usage, and improve the experience.

We configure product analytics to avoid capturing typed symptom check-ins and other health-related page content. We do not intentionally send symptom check-in content to analytics providers.

3. How we use information

We use information we receive to:

  • Create and manage accounts
  • Authenticate users and support profile features
  • Provide, secure, maintain, and troubleshoot the Service
  • Respond to questions and support requests
  • Receive and evaluate feedback
  • Understand general usage and improve the Service
  • Prevent misuse, fraud, or security incidents
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service

We do not sell your symptom history, use it for targeted advertising, or share a symptom report on your behalf.

4. Voice transcription

The microphone feature uses the browser’s Web Speech API. Speech processing is controlled by your browser and device, not by Symptom Keep.

Depending on what you use, audio may be processed by Google, Apple, Microsoft, or another browser or device provider. Their handling of audio and transcripts is governed by their own privacy terms and your device settings.

You can always type instead of using the microphone.

5. Reports and sharing

You control whether a symptom report leaves the Service. When you copy or email a report, you choose the recipient and the method of sharing.

Once information is sent to another person or service, their handling of that information is outside Symptom Keep’s control. Review the recipient and the contents before sharing.

6. Service providers

We use service providers to operate the Service. They may process limited information on our behalf, subject to their agreements and applicable law. These providers include:

  • Supabase: authentication, account and profile information, encryption-key storage, feedback, and avatar storage
  • Hostinger and WordPress: website hosting, website administration, and contact-form delivery or storage
  • PostHog: limited product analytics, when enabled
  • Browser and device providers: voice transcription when you choose to use the microphone feature

We may replace a provider as the Service evolves. We do not authorize service providers to use personal information for their own targeted advertising.

7. Data retention

Browser-local symptom history remains in the browser until it is cleared by you, the browser, the device, or the Service’s local-storage controls.

We retain account, profile, feedback, analytics, and support information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, respond to requests, maintain security, meet legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Retention periods may differ by type of information and provider.

8. Deleting information and closing your account

To request access to, correction of, or deletion of account information held by Symptom Keep, email hello@symptomkeep.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

Deleting or closing an account does not necessarily erase browser-local symptom history. To remove those records from a device, use the Service’s clear-storage feature or clear the site’s browser data.

Clearing browser-local storage is permanent. Symptom Keep cannot restore erased check-ins.

9. Browser-local storage and risk of data loss

Symptom history is tied to the specific browser and device where it was recorded. It can be permanently lost if you:

  • Clear cookies, site data, local storage, IndexedDB, or browser data
  • Use private or incognito browsing and close the session
  • Switch browsers or devices
  • Reset, lose, or replace the device
  • Use the Service’s clear-storage feature
  • Allow the browser or operating system to reclaim local storage

Adding the Service to a phone’s Home Screen may improve storage persistence on some devices, but it does not create a cloud backup.

Export or share information you need to preserve before clearing browser data or changing devices.

10. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures intended to protect information. Sensitive symptom fields are encrypted in the browser using AES-256-GCM.

No security method is perfect. We cannot guarantee that the Service will always be available or that information will never be accessed, disclosed, altered, or lost.

If we discover a breach that requires notification, we will provide notice as required by applicable law.

11. HIPAA

Symptom Keep is a consumer tool and is not a health care provider, health plan, or health care clearinghouse. Unless we expressly agree otherwise in writing, Symptom Keep is not acting as a business associate of your health care provider.

Information you enter into a consumer health app may not be protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Other privacy and consumer-protection laws may still apply.

12. Children’s privacy

The Service is intended for people age 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us at hello@symptomkeep.com.

13. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of personal information we hold, or to appeal a decision about a request.

These rights apply to information held by Symptom Keep, not to symptom check-ins that exist only in your browser and are inaccessible to us.

To make a request, email hello@symptomkeep.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

14. International users

Symptom Keep is based in the United States. Information received by us or our providers may be processed in the United States or other countries where privacy laws may differ from those where you live.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Service changes. We will post the updated version with a new “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects how we use personal information, we will provide additional notice when required.
